"As a Feinstein Leadership School, Blackrock students are expected to participate in opportunities that help assist others in need.  Good deeds are happening at Blackrock and throughout Coventry each and every day.  Often times, these deeds cost very little, sometimes nothing, and when totaled, help a greater amount of people.  The power of many begins with the power of one.  Not only do these good deeds benefit others, but they also promote a person's healthy self-concept and an intrinsic desire to contribute to our positive community culture.  Everyone can make a difference in the lives of others.  Here are some of the service learning projects and good deeds Blackrock has to shout about!"

Our students brought in 1,387 canned goods and non-perishable food items so that Coventry's Department of Human Services: Coventry Food Bank can make food baskets for our needy families for the holidays.  Congratulations to Mrs. Palmieri's class for the most donations: 261 items!

Crazy Hair Day: Thanks to all students who wore their hair in CRAZY ways for $1.00 on Friday, December 21, 2007!  About $200.00 will go to help defray the cost of home heating oil for Blackrock families through the Coventry Department of Human Services.

TEAM TOLERANCE at CHUCK E. CHEESE! Your generosity raised nearly $180.00 at Chuck E. Cheese in Warwick to benefit TEAM TOLERANCE and the Rhode Island Autism Project

MARCH PENNIES FOR PATIENTS- BEST YEAR EVER with $2,030.46!  We asked and you responded!  Blackrock more than doubled it's highest year contribution.  Ms. Pelletier got pied in the face and Mrs. Castle made good on kissing a pig April 25th.  Did you see it in the paper?  What is most important though?  Knowing we did a remarkable good deed for children in need.

Service Learning Project- "Warm Up Coventry"  Thank you to Mrs. Vandervelde, Mrs. LaBranche, and Mrs. Wells for their service learning project "Warm Up Coventry."  Students learned about the art of crotchet and made squares that were stitched together to make blankets for the homeless at the "Crossroads" shelter.   Congratulations to all of the children who gave of themselves and learned a new craft while helping others. CrossRoads came to Blackrock to accept the donation and children were treated to a presentation of their good work.

Thank you to Mr. Feinstein for awarding Blackrock with a $10,000.00 grant!  This money will be used to purchase technology and provide the community with opportunities to utilize technology in their everyday lives!

Blackrock students make a difference!
