Dear Parents,
We are proud to announce that during September of the 2009-2010 school
year, we began school wide implementation of our positive behavior support
program at Hopkins Hill School.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a process for
creating safer and more effective schools by focusing on improving a
school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.
This is a state initiative sponsored by the Paul V. Sherlock Center at
Rhode Island College.
For the past year, the PBIS Team of teachers and staff at Hopkins Hill
have been involved in intensive trainings. The school is now ready
for full implementation. Our school supports the following
school-wide expectations:
“Hopkins Hill Huskies are Respectful, Responsible, and Safe”
Students will be provided with many opportunities to learn and practice
these expectations. For example, behavioral expectations were
modeled for students at a school-wide assembly on September 4th.
To help students know exactly how to behave in all areas, specific
examples are also posted throughout the school building. When
teachers and staff members observe students demonstrating these behaviors
they will be acknowledged in a variety of ways. Some of you may have
heard about the Paw Bucks!
More information about the PBIS program will be made available to families
this fall. Additional information may be found on the district and
school’s websites and at
WWW.PBIS.ORG.
Sincerely,
Tracey Whitehead, Principal
HHPBIS Team
