Program of Studies

As you read through our Program of Studies guide for the 2010-2011 school year, please thoroughly review the information contained on pages 1 through 7. This information is included to provide you with knowledge and guidance as you plan your individualized course of studies at Coventry High School. A detailed description of the requirements is outlined for you on the subsequent pages. While it is critical to meet these requirements, I also encourage you to wisely consider your course selections, giving yourself enough room for rigorous work but also balancing this with learning that is interesting and innovative. Please pay special attention to the sections on credit requirements and promotion policy, credit requirements for graduation and Graduation by Proficiency Requirements. Graduation by Proficiency is a graduation requirement for all students as mandated by the Rhode Island Board of Regents and the Rhode Island Department of Education. Course offerings are presented in a way that will help you understand not only the content of the courses being offered, but also expected standards and assessment practices. Careful attention has been paid to aligning the Program of Studies with Coventry High School's Mission Statement and Learner Expectations. The administration's intent is to provide clear direction to, and guidance for what we believe will be a challenging and rewarding high school learning experience for all students. When scheduling for classes, get as much information as you can in each area and make an informed decision. Please be reminded that guidelines for course changes will be strictly adhered to as indicated on Pages 5-6 of this document. Our counselors, teachers and administrators are available to assist you in the scheduling process and wish you tremendous success in the year ahead.
