CHS will give the PSAT on Saturday October 15

PSAT 2011 Letter and Registration Form

Why the PSAT is a valuable resource for students:

It lets students gain first-hand experience for the SAT
The PSAT/NMSQT measures verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills.

      It builds students’ testing confidence
Confidence is a big issue in test taking. Studies have shown that students who have more self-confidence when taking the test are less likely to make careless or anxiety-driven errors. The result? Higher scores.

It lets students introduce themselves to colleges

Students who indicated a potential career will have information on the PSAT. Score Report linking what majors may best satisfy the career goal, and what types of courses are important in high school.

There is a chance to win scholarships

Juniors taking the PSAT also can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

      Students receive great feedback
Students get their test booklet back and EVERY question has the answer the student gave, and the correct answer. This is a great way for students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and gives them a chance to sharpen their test-taking skills.

What can be done at home:

Please encourage your child to go online and create a login at www.collegeboard.com/psatextra to receive detailed information about their PSAT performance.

Studetns need to create an account with College Board; this will be helpful when they apply on-line for the SAT. PLEASE make sure the student writes it down and saves it!

In this web site, students can further explore how they did on their PSAT. Helpful hints are given regarding how to improve their scores.

Also, students can utilize the free My Road career exploration program. Students will be asked a series of questions to gauge their personality profile and examine their interests. The program then offers students possible majors and colleges based on the information.

Feel free to call the Guidance Office if you would like more information.
