First graders are
hopping into second grade as the school year draws to a close. The
children continue improve their reading skills as they learn to read
for meaning. They are making connections to text as it applies in
their real world. In addition to making self-to-text connections,
they are working on making text-to-text connections. They are
realizing similarities and differences in books of the same
genre/theme.
In math, children
continue to work on fractions, time, money, and number stories.
Please remember to join us on June 9th as children share their
poems. In Mrs. Easton's class, the children wrote cinquains. The
poems involve a pattern using different parts of speech we have been
working on all year. In Mrs. Fitzgerald's class the children have
worked on writing rhyming poems. Both classes have also prepared a
special presentation.
As the summer approaches it is very important that children continue
reading daily. We wish you a happy and safe summer and look forward
to seeing everyone in August!
