The second graders will be as busy as bees in June. We begin by
celebrating our two years together on June 16th. Then, on
June 18th, we will be going to Save the Bay’s Exploration
Center in Newport to learn about a variety of creatures in
Narragansett Bay and explore Easton’s Beach. Finally, on June 22nd,
the children will be meeting their pen pals as we set off to Western
Coventry School for a fun-filled day.

Although it is summer, remember the
learning should continue. Read many books and talk about the story
elements, summarize or retell the story, draw a picture of your favorite
character or part of the story and make connections. This can also be
done with a movie you go to see or a television show you watch.
Practice your math facts, telling time, counting money and making
change. Keep a journal about what you do or how to get somewhere. A
writing companion book will be sent home for the children to keep.
They can work in it throughout the summer to reinforce the writing
skills and strategies they have learned. Keep those brain cells
active!
It has been a pleasant and rewarding
experience working with your children for two years. We have enjoyed
the relationship we have built with each child and feel as though they
are part of our family. It will be difficult to say good-bye.
Thank-you for everything!
