Stepping Up to First Grade

A Guide for Parents and Students

     Students and their parents were surveyed at the end of the 2003-2004 school year to gather information on concerns and questions regarding stepping up to first grade. Teachers and students created a supply list that went home with last year's kindergarteners. 

    This year, a pamphlet is being designed and illustrated by the current first graders to address the questions and concerns identified in the survey. The pamphlets will be distributed during a Step Up Day for kindergarten students and their parents planned and implemented by the first grade students and their teachers.

    Each year the first graders will plan a Step Up Day for incoming first grade students and their parents. Questions raised on Step Up Day will be used to revise the pamphlet.
