FUNDRAISER NEWS

Congratulations to first grader Marissa Allen, who sold the most Yankee Candles and other  merchandise. She was the recipient of a $100.00 gift certificate to Toys R Us. Fourth grader Connor

McNamara sold the next highest amount which earned him $50.00 from Toys R Us.  Finally,  Jessica Mulholland in grade 5, earned $25.00 for selling the 3rd highest amount of products. Hats off  to all our top salespeople and special thanks to all of you for supporting our  fundraiser. This money will be used by the PTA  to support all the cultural enrichment activities of  the school. For example, the entire school body viewed a  terrific production on 12/18 of Babes in Toyland.

Legion Dance Academy performed and Laura Clavette took care of the details.

WOW

Our Santa Sale and Bazaar brought in a total profit of $4188.76! Way to go!

Many thanks to the bazaar tri-chairs Dawn McNamara,  Deana Joyal and Lisa Vanasse.  Our Santa tri- chairs included Lisa Hanlon,  Sue Rush and Sabrina Houghton . These chairladies  did a wonderful job along with their committees of elves. It is always a joy to see our former Western Coventry graduates help the children shop at the Santa Sale! An additional thank you to Windy Fino for doing all the bargain shopping for us!

DON’T  FORGET

Winter is upon us and with it comes ice, snow and occasional mud. Please put a baggy with an extra outfit in your child’s backpack. I allow children to go outside for recess unless the wind chill is prohibitive. Our students will all need their hats, jackets and mittens labeled with their first and last names.

Please feel free to come and check our lost and found bucket located in the foyer for any missing garments. You’ll never know what you will find!

From Mrs. Sullivan……..

Happy New Year to all of you!  On behalf of the faculty and staff, I send my best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2009. I’m sure that you have noticed how terrific the school looks. We have our “Beautification Team” to thank for the splendor of the greenery, wreaths and cheer in the air.

During the month of January, teachers will introduce students to the Young Authors’ program. Students will be invited to participate in this project sponsored by the Rhode Island Council of the International Reading Association. The goal of this program is to encourage children to develop their writing skills as young authors.  Books are due by Wednesday, March 11, 2009.  All young authors will be invited to a special event during the month of April.

A very special thank you to Senator Blais and Senator Raptakis.  Both leaders each awarded our school with $1000.00 in grant money. As always, we will use this wisely so that all of the children benefit.  Senator Blais will be funding our popular morning academies that will once again begin in the spring. Senator Raptakis will be funding more computers for our exciting new technology room. We thank them both for their generosity and for making a difference.

Here’s to a peaceful, happy, and healthy New Year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sullivan
