Washington Oak Elementary School has merged Positive Behavior and Supports (PBIS) into our TEACH Program. The PBIS program is based on research that supports a positive school climate and community improves school-wide behavior. There are many exciting and positive happenings taking place throughout the school. For example we had a student contest to create a school mascot. The winner was The Washington Oak Wallaby. Now students work to earn Wallaby White Slips for following school routines outside their classroom. Adults throughout the school hand out slips when students demonstrate one of the TEACH values. One adult per week is randomly selected as the “Weekly Wallaby White Slip Winner” and announced over the intercom. Additionally, daily acknowledge slips are filled out by students and adults alike, to recognize and individual/s who demonstrated the TEACH values.

The Key Elements of PBIS

PBIS Chart
  • Outcomes: Academic and behavior targets that are endorsed and emphasized by students, families, and educators

  • Practices: Interventions and strategies that are evidence based

  • Data: Information that is used to identify status, need for change, and effects of interventions

  • Systems: Supports that are needed to enable the accurate and durable implementation of the practices of PBIS
